PENINSULA FINE ARTS CENTER SEEKS VOLUNTEERS AND INTERNS
The Peninsula Fine Arts Center (Pfac) involves
volunteers in dynamic and engaging opportunities at the Center
including: customer service to visitors, supporting administrative
needs for staff, working with school groups, facilitating
art activities and much more.
Prospective volunteers should enjoy art, interacting with the public and able
to make a six-month commitment to a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. Required orientation
provided by the staff of Pfac. Special benefits are provided to Art Alliance
members in appreciation of their invaluable work.
Joining The Arts Alliance
When you decide to become a volunteer you automatically become a member of Pfac
and our Arts Alliance Volunteer Organization. This entitles you to all member
benefits. You are required to make a six-month commitment to one or more groups
and participate in any training and educational programs. To join the Arts Alliance
and become a volunteer you must fill out an application, including a background
check for those over 18, be interviewed and abide by the expectations listed
below.
Applications are accepted at all times, but assignments are made specific to
the Centers needs. All volunteers are unpaid.

annual breakfast
- Arts Alliance Newsletter
- Complimentary
admission to designated lectures and special viewing of
exhibitions.
- Guided tours to other museums and
art centers, artists' studios and private collections
- Access
to obtaining a discounted membership to the Museum of Fine
Arts in Richmond. (Individual $20, Family $30, paid to
Pfac)
Volunteers will be expected to:
- Make a minimum commitment of six months
and establish a regular schedule.
- Abide by policies and procedures of
the Center.
- Abide by the Standards for Museum Volunteers.
- Attend a general
museum volunteer orientation and any training sessions
required for your volunteer position.
- Attend continuing education
programs and museum events, as provided, to
enhance your knowledge of the museum and your professional skills.
- Collaborate
with staff and other volunteers, accepting supervision and
evaluation of your volunteer work.
- Successfully pass a criminal
background check. Pfac will underwrite the costs
for this service.
- Communicate with staff and volunteer leadership.
Your ideas, comments and
feedback are welcome.
- Choose one or more groups within which
to participate (see below for listings).
- Keep track of your
hours by using the Volunteer log book at the front desk.
Volunteer Groups Available
- The Learning
Council assists in our Hands on for Kids (KOFK) program,
family activities, special education projects, and
community outreach.
- Exhibition Stewards offers exhibition support, support the
docent program, and support interactive programs.
- Pfac Ambassadors assists with visitor services, greeters
for events, work in the gift shop, and promotional
events.
- Beaux Arts Alliance supports special events, receptions,
flower arrangements, gardens and
outside area, office support.
- Art Network
(under 40 group) - Community Day, business networking,
glassworks or fundraising, Arts Café.
- Collectors/Muse Society supports
Art Auction event and award shows and events.

best match your interests to the Center’s needs.

Non-paid internships are
offered at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center throughout the year.
During the school year, interns are requested to work a minimum
of eight hours per week. During the summer, interns are requested
to work between 20-40 hours per week. Internships are available
in the curatorial, education,
marketing, development
departments. To see about internships in other areas, please

Evaluation of all interns will be completed at the end of
their internship periods.
All applicants interested in an internship
must submit:
1. Cover letter, expressing their area
of interest
2. Resume with two references
3. Two letters of recommendation (academic)
4. Writing Samples (if necessary for department)
