    In this free lecture, artist Phil Garrett will discuss his artwork and craft, demonstrating how he uses Golden Paints in his pieces. Garrett is also teaching a sold-out workshop, but this lecture is open to the public!

  • Art After 5 Movie Night: "The Gates"
    July 17 • Talk at 5:30 p.m., movie at 6 p.m.
    Is that art? Who gets to say? Join in a discussion about public art, from heroes on horseback to Marilyn Monroe’s famous flying skirt, with Carol CapĆ³, director of the Newport News Public Art Foundation, which places public art throughout the city. Stick around for a viewing of “The Gates,” a documentary tracing the effort of artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude to install bright orange fabric “gates” in Central Park. Admission is free for members and $5 for nonmembers.
