The exhibition includes photographs of Mali by Eliot Elisofon. Elisofon (1911-1973) was an internationally known photographer and filmmaker whose enduring visual record of African life from 1943 to 1973 was published in magazines such as Life and National Geographic. Selected from the archives by Michael Preble, Program Director, these images, envisioned with the balanced eye of an artist and an ethnographer, sensitively capture the spirit of a people and the essence of a remarkable place.
These thirty works are made available from the Eliot Elisofon Photographic Archives of the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution.
