American Watercolor Masters
American Watercolor Masters survey the work of 30 early 20th century American artists whose work in the medium of watercolor set a standard of excellence for future generations. While many of these artists were also oil painters, some printmakers and drawing artists as well, it is their watercolors that are at the vanguard in the history of American watercolor. Among the artists represented are Milton Avery, Romare Bearden, Charles Burchfield, Arthur Dove, Morris Graves, John Marin, John Singer Sargent and Charles Sheeler.
Recent American Watercolors
Presented in conjunction with American Watercolor Masters, this exhibition will focus on more contemporary expressions, dating from the last 20 years, by some 50 American artists. Among the artists included are Warren Criswell, Whitney Leland, Philip Pearlstein, Jamie Wyeth and Russell Yerkes.
Brushstrokes
This exhibition takes a look at the work of four artists who specialize in an aspect of watercolor painting and all of whom are familiar to Virginia and Hampton Roads audiences including Betty Anglin, Janet Eggen and Jan Ledbetter.
