 Furniture by Tom Wessells |
This exhibition will present a look at the art and fine craftsmanship of local woodworker Tom Wessells and will include a selection of his latest creations as well as a retrospective look at some of his award-winning pieces. In his craftsmanship and technique, Wessells notes that much of his work uses conventional joinery techniques. He uses hand-cut dovetail joints and mortise and tenon joints and his pieces often have relief-carving as well as three-dimensional carved elements. More recent work includes an inlay technique that incorporates specific shapes as well as painted elements. Certain works requiring strength and delicacy will be structured with bentwood lamination. The furniture of Tom Wessells, who lives and works in Newport News, Virginia, has appeared in numerous books and magazines.
