Size Matters: From the Collection of Sydney and Frances Lewis
Chuck Close, Self Portrait, etching, 58
Sydney and Frances Lewis created one of the most important collections of contemporary American art of the late twentieth century. A unifying trait of works in this collection is the quality resulting from the unique perception of their creators. The collection began in late 1978. It has been made available to the public through generous donations to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and through traveling exhibitions, and loans to exhibitions such as PFAC.
