World Trade Center Photos - Aftermath: Images from Ground Zero
The North Wall, October 26, 2001, copyright Joe Meyerowitz, Courtesy Ariel Me
Photographer Joel Meyerowitz spent most of the nine months after September 11, 2001 documenting the site that came to be known as Ground Zero. During that time he made over 8,500 photographs, many with a large format view camera, as a photographic record of the spectacle of destruction, the reverence for the dead and the painstaking effort of recovery. These works form the basis of the World Trade Center Archive, (some being donated to the Museum of the New York City and the Library of Congress.)
